Sweet Filthy Boy
Wild Seasons #1
Christina Lauren
Wild Seasons by Christina Lauren is a contemporary romance series sparked by one unforgettable weekend in Las Vegas, where three best friends each meet a man who changes everything. Expect heat, witty banter, and a close-knit friend group navigating post-college life and complicated love.
It all starts in Vegas. Three college friends, one wild graduation weekend, and three impulsive marriages that set the entire Wild Seasons series in motion. Written by Christina Lauren - the pen name of co-authors Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings - the series follows Mia, Harlow, and Lola as each woman stumbles headlong into love with a stranger, only to spend the rest of her story working out whether that stranger deserves to stay. The tone shifts across the books, but the throughline is consistent: sharp dialogue, genuine emotional stakes, and a contemporary romance sensibility that treats sex and vulnerability as two sides of the same coin.
What distinguishes Wild Seasons from comparable series is the commitment to the close-knit friend group. These women aren't backdrop to each other's love stories - their friendships carry real weight, and the overlapping cast means readers who start at book one will spot familiar faces and deepening relationships as the series progresses. Each book is largely self-contained and can be read as a standalone, but the full emotional texture only lands when you've watched the group grow together. The coming of age thread runs underneath everything: these are characters figuring out careers, identities, and what they actually want from life, not just from the person across the pillow.
Across the four novels, Christina Lauren lean into opposites attract dynamics and slow-burn romance with confidence, and they're not shy about heat and spice - though the books balance that with the kind of emotional vulnerability and witty banter and sharp dialogue that keeps readers attached to the characters long after the steam clears. The forced proximity and friends to lovers scenarios feel earned rather than contrived, grounded in specific details of place and personality that make each couple distinct.
Sweet Filthy Boy (2014) introduces Mia Holland, who makes the impulsive decision to follow her Vegas fling - charming Frenchman Ansel Guillaume - to Paris for the summer rather than take the safe path she's been dreading. The book sets up the series' premise and won the Romantic Times Book of the Year, establishing the warmth and chemistry that defines the whole run.
Dirty Rowdy Thing (2014) follows Harlow Vega and Finn Roberts, two people who can barely stand each other outside of their undeniable physical pull - and whose accidental Las Vegas marriage lasted less than twelve hours. The novel shifts focus to a grumpier, more combative dynamic, with a grumpy-sunshine dynamic and enemies to lovers tension that gives the series some of its most entertaining friction.
Dark Wild Night (2015) shifts focus to Lola and Oliver, the third couple from that original Vegas weekend - the pair who sensibly walked away before anything happened, and have spent ever since pretending they're perfectly happy as just friends. Their story is the most friends to lovers and slow-burn romance driven of the four, and draws on Lola's life as a graphic novelist to give the book a creative, slightly more introspective character.
Wicked Sexy Liar (2016) introduces London Hughes, who sits outside the original trio but becomes part of the group's orbit when she crosses paths with Luke Sutter. London has good reasons to distrust easy charm, and Luke has a reputation that does him no favours. The novel broadens the series' world while maintaining the complicated romance and personal growth beats that readers came for, closing out the main run on a confident note.
