Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood is a standalone contemporary romance published in August 2022, her second novel following the breakout success of The Love Hypothesis. Hazelwood's Women in STEM focus is sharper here than in her debut, leaning into the specific, often absurd indignities of being a woman taken less seriously than her male colleagues by default - handled with the same dry, Witty Banter & Sharp Dialogue that's become her signature, even as the satire lands with real bite. Bee's guardedness isn't just professional, either: a painful past relationship has left her with genuine Trauma and Healing to work through, and watching her slowly let Levi past defences she's built for good reason gives the romance real emotional stakes beyond the workplace tension.

This is a Complicated Romance that resists easy resolution - old hurts, mixed signals, and an anonymous online confidant Bee's been venting to throughout the book all complicate the path toward the Emotional Vulnerability both Bee and Levi eventually have to risk. The Heat / Spice between them builds slowly and pays off with real tenderness once it arrives, in keeping with the book's patient, character-first pacing.

For readers who enjoyed Hazelwood's debut, Love on the Brain is widely considered a step up - funnier in places, more emotionally textured in others, and proof that her STEM romance formula had real range beyond its first outing.
