Jade War is Fonda Lee's 2019 second installment in the Green Bone Saga, winning the World Fantasy Award and Locus Award whilst expanding the series' scope beyond Kekon's shores to explore how foreign powers seek to exploit or control jade, threatening the island nation's sovereignty and forcing the Kaul family to make increasingly morally complex choices to protect No Peak clan. Following the escalating rivalry between No Peak and Mountain clan established in Jade City, the novel deepens character development, raises personal and political stakes, and explores how the costs of power - physical, psychological, and moral - accumulate across individuals and families caught in cycles of violence and loyalty.

Shae has committed to No Peak despite her earlier desire to escape clan life, taking on roles requiring her to navigate foreign powers whilst protecting Kekon's interests. Anden continues his training and growth, facing choices about what kind of Green Bone he will become and what he owes his family versus himself.
