Blood & Honey is Shelby Mahurin's 2020 second installment in the Serpent & Dove trilogy, continuing Lou and Reid's story as the consequences of choices made in the first book reshape their relationship, their circumstances, and the world around them. Following the events that ended Serpent & Dove, the sequel expands beyond Cesarine into Belterra's broader landscape whilst exploring how trust fractures and rebuilds, how found family holds together under pressure, and how the Church's authority and the world's magical conflicts escalate beyond what either protagonist anticipated when their story began. Through dual POV maintaining both Lou and Reid's perspectives, Mahurin advances both the romantic and plot arcs whilst introducing complications that test everything established in the debut.

The novel picks up with Lou and Reid in significantly changed circumstances, their relationship strained by revelations and choices that neither has fully processed. The blood magic system develops further as the costs and implications of Lou's magic become clearer, with the sacrifice required by witchcraft creating genuine stakes for characters whose magical abilities are central to survival. The ancient powers hinted at in the first book begin manifesting more concretely, raising the series' stakes beyond the initial witch-hunter conflict toward threats that will drive the trilogy's conclusion.

Reid's journey continues as his worldview, already complicated by the first book's events, faces further challenge - his faith, his identity as Chasseur, and his understanding of good and evil all require reassessment in light of what he's experienced and what he continues to encounter.
