But for readers who have followed Tad's journey from the beginning and invested in the mythology of this world, the payoffs are substantial. The action sequences are among the most technically ambitious in the series, and the emotional stakes - for Tad, for Liz, for the family and allies he has fought so hard to protect - have never been more visceral.
